From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, comes an epic American love story, Brokeback Mountain; the winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, winner of four Golden Globes and winner of three Oscars (Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Score for Gustavo Santaolalla and Best Adapted Screenplay for Diana Ossana & Larry McMutry)!
The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx, adapted by Diana Ossana and the great Larry McMutry (scribe and author of The Last Picture Show).
Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection; one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love.
Based on a doom-laden book by Whitley Strieber, Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow" manages the feat of making you think about a real issue while also turning it into spectacular, city-destroying entertainment. Those familiar with Emmerich's previous destruction epic "Independence Day" will recognise the style, but this time the force decimating civilisation is far more terrifying than B-movie aliens; it's a new Ice Age brought about by our own ignorance.
Like "Independence Day", the real stars of the show here are the effects. Jaw-dropping CG realises a giant tornado destroying Los Angeles and an enormous tsunami sweeping into New York, only to be frozen to snow hundreds of feet deep. Meanwhile in Britain, the eye of a huge super storm is enough to bring down helicopters and instantly freeze-dry their crew.
The only thing more dangerous than the line being crossed is the cop who will cross it...
A gripping drama set in the shadowy world of undercover police work, Training Day tells the story of a veteran L.A.P.D. narcotics officer (Denzel Washington in an Oscar-winning role) who guides an idealistic rookie (Ethan Hawke) through his first day on the brutal inner-city beat.
